Covering the Web: Edition #8

Covering The Web

“Covering the Web” is where we shine the spotlight on content about head covering or complementarianism that we did not produce ourselves. Each edition includes articles, videos, photos, as well as e-book deals relevant to our movement’s mission. Links are not endorsements.

  • MUST READ: The Lies of Feminism (Founders)
“Some still try to sell the ‘Feminism is the radical notion that women are people’ line. It’s a lie that is somehow both blithe and misleading, but at least it’s short enough to fit in an Instagram post.”
  • The Gospel as Interpretive Key to 1 Corinthians 10:31–11:16: On Christian Worship, Head Coverings, and the Trinity (Themelios/TGC)
“Paul is not simply correcting the behavior of some of the Corinthian women who were dishonoring their husbands in gathered worship (11:4–6). He wants to bring the gospel, and its characteristic dispositions of dignity, humility, and grace to bear on the way in which all Christians worship.” — Note: This article takes the cultural view but is helpful nonetheless.
  • The Abolition of Men? (CBMW)
“For it is just this that could reinvigorate American boyhood: a vision of manhood that calls him away from self-indulgence and libertinism, and toward self-possession and discipline, embracing his God-given manliness in the service of right vs. racist wrong, good vs. existentialist evil — the kind of community-protecting, relationship-building, family-forming manhood that must be characterized by virtue.”

The following are a list of limited time e-book deals which are on the topic of biblical manhood and womanhood. If you don’t have a Kindle device, you can install their free reading app on your computer, phone, or tablet. Prices may vary per region.

Re-post • @cassiescorner.shop – “Lord, I offer up this rebel heart So stubborn and so restless from the start I don’t wanna fight You anymore So take this rebel heart and make it Yours Father, I no longer wanna run You’ve broken my resistance with Your love And drowned it underneath the crimson spill So bend this rebel heart unto Your will” I’m not exactly sure why this song hit me so hard as it played on my list today, but it has. It’s made me think of so many instances that after I’ve surrendered to the Father, you feel a peace, and things work out so beautifully. ? Song is; Rebel Heart by Lauren Daigle. Let it play a few times! Have a blessed sabbath, ladies! ❤️? // #headwrap #headcovering #sabbath #shabbatshalom #messianic #headcovering #headcoverings #cassiescornershop

To be more of a motherly figure even though im not his mom and im not a mom at all (i do get the mommy thing from ppl though ),i still feel that special attachment. He’s taught me to be more responsible. He’s a handful-energetic and very strong little guy, haha, that’s where i ended up sticking the nickname “my crab” to him. I love him to pieces. So glad God chose Nick to be a part of my life. • • • • • • • • • • •#blessed #nanny #lovehim #loveHim #myboy #nannying #nannyworld #LA #OC #lovehimtopieces #photography #life #specialmoments #growingboy #growingup #love

  • MUST READ: Biblical Complementarianism Serves to Protect Women (Delivered by Grace)
“Regardless of where you stand on the issues of the way the news media portrays the complicity of the [Southern Baptist] Convention as a whole—the fact remains that women and girls have been abused and men have abandoned their post as protector and provider.”
  • Head Coverings in Worship? (Purely Presbyterian)
“Admittedly, this is a challenging passage, and an issue that not all Christians see eye to eye on. So we want to deal with objections that have come, and might come, in a way that is God honoring and charitable.”
  • Male-Only Ordination is Natural: Why the Church is a Model of Reality (The Calvinist International)
“I understand that they can sound harsh, and I understand that there is a history of abusive patriarchy. I also know that there are just boneheaded ‘bros’ who have no particular ideology and are instead led about by their bellies and lower appetites. No one should be a jerk about this stuff.”

Re-post @becominghiscrown – Now I commend you because you remember me in everything and maintain the traditions even as I delivered them to you. But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a wife is her husband, and the head of Christ is God. Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head, but every wife who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head, since it is the same as if her head were shaven. For if a wife will not cover her head, then she should cut her hair short. But since it is disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her head. For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man. For man was not made from woman, but woman from man. Neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. That is why a wife ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. Nevertheless, in the Lord woman is not independent of man nor man of woman; for as woman was made from man, so man is now born of woman. And all things are from God. Judge for yourselves: is it proper for a wife to pray to God with her head uncovered? Does not nature itself teach you that if a man wears long hair it is a disgrace for him, but if a woman has long hair, it is her glory? For her hair is given to her for a covering. If anyone is inclined to be contentious, we have no such practice, nor do the churches of God.

  • MUST READ: The Christian Woman’s Legitimate Sphere of Action and Influence (The Transformed Wife)
“Once in a while, I enjoy looking at the commentaries of old to see what they have to say about a verse so I did it with this one. Do they think this verse was only relevant to the time it was written as many believe? Were the women back then loud and obnoxious in the churches so this verse is not relevant for today?”

Re-Post • @abiding_home – I can’t believe it’s June! I feel like time is flying by these days. This month my sweet girl here will turn 5! Today, simply because it was finally June, she put on this pink polka dot dress and her older sister’s necklace. Everyone has been pretending she is a queen. ?She’s telling me here that she has a secret key in her necklace. I love her enthusiasm! This is such a rich season of life! I don’t want to take a moment for granted. And 5 and 6 are my favorite ages for children, at least for now because we haven’t been through all the ages yet, but these are such sweet years! These have been my favorite ages even since my younger siblings were this age. At 5 and 6 they are still little in so many ways, and yet there is a maturity that takes place where they are more independent and self-controlled than those preschool years. Truly my favorite! Maybe it’s strange that I have a favorite age… I don’t know, do you have a favorite age for children? . . . #childrenareablessing #lovingthelittleyears #five #motherhood

Re-post • @purposed_homemaker – Would you believe that I completely ignored my husband for the most part before we started dating???? . It’s so funny to look back at it now, but it’s true! At the time I was so young, and didn’t want to give my attention to the guys or towards having a “crush.” We’d talk of course because we were in youth and he, my brother and I would take rides together, but I was a little hard to strike up a normal convo with.? . It’s not like that now though, don’t worry.?? . . . . . #funfact #biblicalmarriage #marriageisforever #theblessingofmarriage #couplephotography #cherryblossomphotography #couplephotographyoutfits #modestoutfit #modestdress #modestfashion #christianmennonitecouple #modestoutfitideas #christiancouples #youandme #marriageforlife #itgetsbettereveryday

What is the Head Covering?

Head Covering Sermon

Preacher: Rev. Armen Thomassian | Sermon Length: 54 min 20 sec | Preached: June 10, 2018

Born in Scotland and raised in Northern Ireland, Rev. Armen Thomassian was delivered from the folly of atheism and brought to saving faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 19. He was sent to Australia in 2007 by the Mission Board of the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster to supply pulpits in South Australia and Tasmania. He returned in 2009 to commence training for the ministry, graduating in 2014. A few weeks later he received and subsequently accepted a call from across the Atlantic to Calgary Free Presbyterian Church and commenced his ministry there in January 2015. After ministering in Calgary for four years, he was installed as minister of Faith Free Presbyterian Church in January 2019.

SERMON COORDINATOR NOTES: This sermon provides a foundational overview of the topic of head coverings, providing exegesis on 1 Corinthians 11:2-16, and addressing popular arguments against the use of head coverings.

Covering The Web

Shining a spotlight on the head covering discussion happening worldwide.

    • Straightforward English Helps us Understand Headcovering (Truth at Home)
“Last night, I watched Steven Anderson’s sermon “Head Coverings in Light of the Bible” for the first time. For several months I had been planning to view it, but hadn’t felt quite up to the agitation I suspected would result.”
    • Headcovering and Happiness (The Happy Housewife)
“My veils make me so happy. I’m protected by God and my husband, and the veils (or my glittering or satin headbands when I choose to cover that way) remind me of that and make me feel safe and secure. And I adore the femininity of it. I love being feminine.”
    • Piper and Grudem: Wrong on Headcoverings (Reformed Christian Theology)
“Both John Piper and Wayne Grudem repeat falsehoods in their ‘Fifty Crucial Questions: An Overview of Central Concerns About Manhood and Womanhood.’ My corrections to their claims will interrupt what they have written”
    • 1 Corinthians 11:2-16 – An interactive Bible Study (Watch Your Life and Doctrine Closely)
“Knowing that convictions on an issue come through personally working through the Scripture instead of having someone spoon-feed you an answer, I wanted to provide my bible study on 1 Corinthians 11 for the benefit of a few readers.”
    • A Gift that Made Me Smile (Truth at Home)
“This past Sunday was beautiful. The weather was beautiful, and something that happened to me was beautiful, too. A lady at my church gave me a gift, and that gift was a variety of lovely zheadcoverings!”
