How The Church Instructs Angels (Video + Audio Sermon)

Head Covering Sermon

Preacher: Joel Walters | Sermon Length: 1hr 3min | Preached: Sept 20, 2015

At a very young age, Joel responded to the Gospel message and became a disciple of Jesus Christ. As a young man, he felt God’s call to ministry and after graduating from High School he began working at his church. He served in whatever way possible and eventually became the worship leader and worked with the youth ministry. In 2008 he was led by the Lord to plant The Bible Fellowship a non-denominational church in Wimauma, FL. He has been pastoring there ever since. Joel and his wife Denaye have 3 children and are blessed and privileged to know and serve the Lord Jesus Christ.

Covering The Web

Shining a spotlight on the head covering discussion happening worldwide.

    • History of the Anabaptist Head Covering (Another Radical Reformation)
“Wearing the head covering for praying women is a good thing; but the elevation of it, the extra commandments we’ve added, and the idolatry we’ve been allowing, needs to be repented of. “
    • Why I Love To Wear A Head Covering (Bruderhof)
“I’ve lost track of how many times my clothing and head covering have given me opportunities to tell others about the reason for the hope that I have, to witness to just how much I love Jesus. That’s one of the blessings of dressing differently.”
    • Barber refuses to cut transgender Army veteran’s hair, citing religious views (The Washington Post)
“Oliver asked for the same cut. Yet the owner of the barbershop turned Oliver away..he told CBS News in Los Angeles that his religion forbids cutting women’s hair. “The Bible teaches us that a woman’s hair is given to her for her glory, and I would not want to take away any of her glory from her.”
    • Tichel Tying on a Budget (Radical Christian Woman)
“Head Covering on a budget? Love Wrapunzel but can’t afford a gripper or volumizer? Here are some workarounds to tichel tying on a budget.”
    • The Irrationality of Ralph Woodrow’s View of Christian Head Covering (Reformed Christian Theology)
“Never mind that Chrysostom, Tertullian and other men who actually read Koine Greek fluently understood that the Apostle Paul was commanding women to cover their heads, and men to uncover theirs, during praying and prophesying. We have evangelists such as Ralph Woodrow telling us that everyone for 1900 years had it all wrong.”

The Peaceful Wife: A Mainstream Book That Promotes Headcovering

The Peaceful Wife

April Cassidy runs a blog called “Peaceful Wife” where she writes encouragement to women on biblical womanhood. She’s also practices headcovering and shared her testimony with us here. I got an e-mail from April in August 2014 telling me that she had been picked up by a Christian literary agent . Shortly after I heard the great news that her book was going to be published through Kregel Publications. It’s almost a year later now, and her book “The Peaceful Wife” is about to release on January 27th.

Here’s the book description and cover:

The Peaceful Wife

What happens when a woman becomes the wife God desires her to be?

In today’s world, women are often rewarded for having type A personalities. Driven, demanding women achieve higher positions, better salaries, and praise for their ambition. They learn to be confident, take-charge leaders who can handle anything on their own. Yet when it comes to their marriages, those same traits can backfire. After all, no one goes into marriage hoping for a promotion. What is a wife to do?

April Cassidy knows this struggle firsthand. She thought she was a great Christian wife and begged God to make her passive husband into a more loving, involved, godly leader. Instead, God opened her eyes to changes that she needed to make, such as laying down her desire for control and offering genuine, unconditional respect–not just love–to her husband. The Peaceful Wife focuses on Cassidy’s experience and its life-changing properties, providing a template for others to follow.

Cassidy’s conclusions may be as shocking to readers as they were to her, but she backs up her own tale with stories from her blog readers, and also includes recommendations for further study. She walks through baby steps on how to change, addressing questions such as:

  • What is respect?
  • How can you show respect?
  • How is being respectful different from being loving?

In the end, The Peaceful Wife is a powerful path to God’s design for women to live in full submission to Christ as Lord.

One of the things we’re really excited about is that on page 171 she gives positive attestation to head covering. Here’s what she says: Read more

The Head Covering And God’s Order

The Head Covering And God’s Order

[Guest Author: This article was written by a guest author. If you’re interested in writing for the Head Covering Movement please contact us.]

About the author: Brother Greg is the founder of SermonIndex.net which started in December 2002. The ministry began with a burden for true genuine revival from the ministry of Leonard Ravenhill and specifically his book: “Why Revival Tarries.” The ministry of SermonIndex is continually reaching more people with classic preaching from the past and the message of revival.

But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. – 1 Corinthians 11:3

The topic of head covering has never been such a heavily debated topic as in the last 50 years of the Church. Scores of liberal thinking, humanistic and cultural ideas have led to the place where people have repudiated the idea that women should wear head coverings. Multitudes of examples have been given on why someone should not wear a head covering but the interesting fact is very few of these arguments address the clear references to the biblical truth of the meaning behind head covering. Everyone is quick to try and dismiss the need for a piece of cloth on the head yet why is this practice even done in the first place? Some will quickly read over the passage in 1 Corinthians and say it is just a requirement for women to pray in that culture or time. But many statements in the passage clearly show there was a deep spiritual meaning and significance behind the practice. It was not simply a requirement of order for prayer but a much deeper reality of the Church, concerning the angels, and the government of God. Read more

No Such Custom (As Women Praying Uncovered)

The final verse in the headcovering passage is a confusing one for many. What did Paul mean when he said we have “no such custom?” Did he really just say you can disregard everything he just finished saying? In this video we give you 5 reasons why it shouldn’t be interpreted that way. Instead of being dismissive of headcovering, it’s actually one of the strongest arguments in favor of the practice.

A Response to Mary Mohler on Christian Headcovering

In this clip I respond to a video posted on Christianity.com from Mary Mohler. Mary directs the Seminary Wives Instutite at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where her husband, Albert Mohler serves as president. In this video Mary answers the question “Should women wear head coverings in church services?” I’ll let you watch her answer in its entirety, while I interject with some thoughts on her main points.

Note: In case you’re wondering, I highly respect the Mohlers and think S.B.T.S. is a fantastic seminary. Though I see this issue differently than them, we agree on far more than we disagree. This is a friendly response to help you, the viewer, think through common objections to this practice.
