Which Christian Leaders Believe in Headcovering?

Who Believes in Headcovering Today?

Last Updated: Oct. 15, 2022

One of the false impressions about headcovering is that it’s “theology-lite.” Meaning, it’s only practiced by those that have a simple faith and don’t understand hermeneutics (how to interpret their Bible correctly). To help lay this myth to rest, we’ve compiled a list of modern evangelical Christian leaders who believe that headcovering is for today. Many of these leaders have exceptional academic training and are trusted by millions for their sound theological teaching. We will continue to update this list as we discover new names.

If you know of a notable Christian leader who believes that this symbol is for today, please e-mail us so we can look into it.

Headship and Head Covering (Sermon)

Head Covering Sermons

Preacher: Chalan Hetherington | Sermon Length: 60 min | Year preached: February 2015

Chalan Hetherington

Pastor Hetherington is the full time minister at Bennetts End Reformed Baptist Church in Hemel Hempstead, England. Since by grace being brought to repentance and faith in 1993, he has studied, and also served the Lord at this Church in the various areas and Church offices. In January 2009 he was called to be the Church’s Pastor. A strong proponent of expository preaching, his fervour and gift lies in the area of verse by verse exposition, seeking to follow in the way of God honoured Puritan preaching, believing that the sermon is not just hinged to Scripture; but that it is inside the Word of God. In other words “the Text” is not in the sermon, but that the sermon is in “the Text”. Pastor is married and has four grown children and four grandchildren.

Covering The Web

Shining a spotlight on the head covering discussion happening worldwide.

  • Headcovering testimony of Sister Jessica (Little maiden’s journey with Jesus)
“This person marched angrily up to me, and without even asking me how I was, or giving me any sort of polite greeting, said, “Why are you wearing that on your head? Why are you trying to be saved by works?” Struck with such a blow, I couldn’t answer right away.”
  • My Head Covering Haul From Five Below (Super Radical Christian Writer Chick)
“I’m super excited. I got six head coverings from the cute and trendy Five Below store my daughters frequent…Here are my photos! Enjoy!”
  • Clothed in Christ (Bible League Trust)
“What follows, then, will explore key verses in the New Testament that speak of how the Christian should appear beyond the heart, ranging from clothing and head covering to jewellery and physical appearance.”
  • My Favorite Head Covering Styles (YouTube)
“This video shows various head covering styles and how to do them.”
  • What Has Come Over Me: Why I’m Wearing Head Covering (After “Normal” Ends)
“A precious friend recently asked me what happened that I suddenly felt called so strongly to submission and head covering. My immediate response was that my marriage was at a crucial point, and something drastic needed to take place in order to ensure it survived. This is a very accurate claim.”

Covering Testimony: Mindy Sue Freeman

1) Introduce yourself to our readers.

My name is Mindy Sue. I am a wife and a stay-at-home mom to two little boys (and another baby coming in March!). I love to sew and create many other crafts from recycled materials although most of my time these days is spent cooking, cleaning and teaching the ABC’s. I look forward to working in the vegetable garden when the weather’s nice and we hope to have livestock soon, too (fresh eggs, yum!). When I’m not pregnant [which isn’t very often:)] I like to help my husband with landscaping and home repairs and anything that will get my hands dirty and work up a good sweat.

2) Where do you attend church? Tell us a little bit about it.

My family has recently started a local Church of Christ assembly. My husband and I both have been going to Baptist churches for years but since moving to this area and having difficulty finding a good fit in a Baptist Church we decided to try a Church of Christ. Although there are a few theological differences we appreciate their exegetical teaching and their commitment to adhere to God’s word. As far as I can tell, I am the only one who wears a head covering. Read more

A Response to Mary Mohler on Christian Headcovering

In this clip I respond to a video posted on Christianity.com from Mary Mohler. Mary directs the Seminary Wives Instutite at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary where her husband, Albert Mohler serves as president. In this video Mary answers the question “Should women wear head coverings in church services?” I’ll let you watch her answer in its entirety, while I interject with some thoughts on her main points.

Note: In case you’re wondering, I highly respect the Mohlers and think S.B.T.S. is a fantastic seminary. Though I see this issue differently than them, we agree on far more than we disagree. This is a friendly response to help you, the viewer, think through common objections to this practice.

Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (Sermon)

Biblical Manhood & Womanhood by David Platt

We spend a lot of time talking about the symbol of headcovering on this site. Most of our time is focused on the symbol itself because that’s the part that’s hotly debated. Having said that, we’d be failing to do our job if we promoted a symbol and never spent time making sure that the meaning behind it was clear. In our article “Creation Order” we laid our a very brief summary of biblical gender roles which is called Complementarianism. Today I have a two-part sermon for you that greatly expands on this topic. It’s called Biblical Manhood and Womanhood by David Platt. David is an excellent teacher of the Word and in this sermon he explains (largely from Genesis 1-3) how men and women were created to function in relation to one-another.

I hope you will take the time to listen to or watch these sermons. If we want to see the symbol of headcovering restored, we need to make sure we’re all on the same page as to it’s meaning. So let’s listen and learn together

Note: We are unfamiliar with David’s position on head covering. This sermon touches on 1 Corinthians 11, but not on the symbol.
