Covering Testimony: Amy Ericson

Name: Amy Ericson | Age: 41 | Location: Phoenix, Arizona | Date started covering: 2018

1) Introduce yourself to our readers.

My husband and I, both followers of Jesus Christ, were married in 2003 at the age of 23. We lived in Indianapolis until God invited us to live in Abu Dhabi, UAE (United Arab Emirates) in 2008. Our time there ended in 2019 when we then moved to our current city of Phoenix, Arizona. We have three kids – ages 11, 9, and 6 – all of whom we homeschool.

2) Where do you attend church? Tell us a little bit about it. Do others practice head covering there?

We currently attend Grace Church of Peoria, in a suburb of Phoenix. It is four miles from my home and filled with awesome, faithful followers – many of whom are similar to us in how they live and run their homes. I am currently the only woman who wears a head covering at my church. I’ve had one young, single gal ask me about my head covering. I believe, with a little bit of encouragement, she will want to start wearing one as well.

Remarkably, I just found out last Sunday that a new friend at church is considering donning a head covering! She’s been convicted about it and now she’s just getting comfortable with the idea. She was inspired to see me wearing one when they first started attending our church a few months ago.

3) What led you to start covering?

I had not heard a good sermon on 1 Corinthians 11:2-16 before and thought that head covering was just something a certain, super-conservative denomination practiced. At first, I did not associate it with the authority structure that God has laid out in the Bible. Read more

  • MUST READ: Must Women Really Keep Silent in the churches? (The Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood)
“What happens if a husband prophesies, and his wife is a prophet as well? Is the husband supposed to be subject to his wife during the judgment of prophecies? Are husbands and wives supposed to suspend male headship during corporate worship? Paul’s answer to that question is a clear no.”
  • The Wise and Industrious Wife (Ligonier Ministries)
“Every godly husband knows the value of a wise and industrious wife, so it should not be surprising to find that this is the kind of wife that God commends in His Word.”
  • Humility and Obedience: My Experience with Christian Headcovering (Wholly Holy Living)
“From the moment I humbled myself before God and prayed for Him to destroy the walls of pride separating me from fellowship with Christ, I began to experience more and more desire for humility, a gentle and quiet spirit, and biblical submission to my husband as my spiritual leader.”

The following are a list of limited time e-book deals which are on the topic of biblical manhood and womanhood. If you don’t have a Kindle device, you can install their free reading app on your computer, phone, or tablet. Prices may vary per region.

Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones on Angels and Head Covering

Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones (1899-1981), minister of Westminster Chapel in London for 30 years, was one of the foremost preachers of his day. His many books have brought profound spiritual encouragement to millions around the world.

Transcript: “In the first epistle to the Corinthians in the eleventh chapter and the 10th verse, Paul uses these words, “For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.” You will remember that he’s considering the question of women praying without their heads being covered. Apparently some of the women in the church of Corinth were taking part in prayer with their heads uncovered. And the Apostle tells them that that’s quite wrong. It’s not only wrong because a woman should have her head covered to show that she is under the authority of the man, but in addition to that he says to that she should be covered because of the presence of the angels. In other words, the Scripture teaches that when you and I are met as we are at this moment and when we’re met together in prayer that the angels of God are present and are looking upon us. And the woman is to be covered when she takes part in public prayer because of the presence of the angels. It’s a tremendous and a remarkable thing. Let us bear it in mind.”

1) Introduce yourself to our readers.

Hi! It’s Caro, the author of the modesty-French-blog “La femme modeste“. I usually describe myself as a “circus girl” as that’s what I’ve practiced since I was a little. I even used to work as a circus teacher which allowed me to travel a little bit. One highlight was teaching in Finland for a year. Today I am back “at home” where I am joyfully learning to serve my family and giving my free time for God’s things, such as promoting modesty and headcovering through my blog.

2) Where do you attend church? Tell us a little bit about it. Do others practice headcovering there?

I go to a baptist church in my town which is very evangelism-oriented. A young women who practices headcovering recently arrived in my church, just when I started to deal with the issue. Her presence really encouraged me! So today there are two veiled girls in this church. There is also another woman who always wear a hat but I don’t know if she does it as a dressing habit or if she does it because of biblical belief. Read more
