“A Symbol & A Prayer”

On the Head Covering Movement, we’ve posted an abundance of articles, videos, sermons, and other information we believe will be helpful to HCM’s followers — but for the first time, we have something a little different: a head covering poem meant to inspire and encourage you!

We hope you enjoy this creative writing project, submitted anonymously by someone who has been devoted to the head covering practice for many years.

Below the poem are options to download it in 4 different styles. You can save the poem as a picture file (easier for viewing & posting) or as a PDF file (easier for printing).  The author grants permission for you to share it with friends, post it on social media, print it as a wall-hanging, or use it however you’d like.  You can also download one (large) PDF file containing all four styles by clicking here.

A Symbol & A Prayer

In First Corinthians 11, Your teachings unfold
The meaning of covering – a truth seldom told
The blueprint for marriage, revealed by Your Word
A Word, in our times, so concealed and unheard

Yet coverings, through the ages, often adorn
The heads of God’s women, humbly worn
Because of the angels, for a beautiful soul*
An outward reminder of our biblical role

For the beauty of marriage: Christ’s care for His church
Your call to love, respect, and to search —
To search for more ways one another to serve
Creating husband-wife unity for this world to observe

In a world so confused about marriage and man
I wear this symbol of Your original plan
Plans for headship and glory, nature and prayer
I’m embracing Your rules, Your ways, and Your care

Grant my husband to lead by following You
Guide his heart by Your Word — this I need, too
Give him wisdom to lead our walk through this life
May I, as a helpmate, be his supportive, brave wife*

Grant me courage to wear this God-ordained covering
All for Your glory, the Church re-discovering
For as I cover my head, I am honoring You
By this practice so simple, ancient, godly, and true
