[Re-Blog] Controversy…but NEEDED!

Re-Blog: Headcovering Articles
The following article is a part of our re-blog series where we seek to give exposure to those who are writing interesting pieces on Complementarianism and head covering. We are not the author.

So I’m sitting with a dear friend recently, a good pastor, with my heart breaking as he told me of a massive exodus in his church by women, who according to him, “Took their husbands and left.”  My friend was hurting.  Badly.  I so get that, because I’ve been there. His crime?  Seeking to teach and apply God’s directions for the order of home and church.Scripture lays out CLEARLY the distinct and complementary roles of men and women in the home and church.  CLEARLY.  Think about the number of clear precepts: 1 Tim 2, 1 Tim 3, Titus 1, Titus 2, 1 Cor 11, 1 Cor 14, Eph 5, Col 3, 1 Pet 3, etc. What else would Christ have to say to convince us? Yet we have a better plan.  And our plan is terrible.  People are getting hurt.  Churches are getting hurt.  Marriages are getting hurt.  Culture has lost the light of the church.  We have blatantly disobeyed God’s order for HIS church and we are paying a terrible price. Below is the most controversial sermon I’ve ever preached in my nearly 20 years of pastoring our church, and the most watched.  It cost me members and friends (literally), but also gained me some as well, by the mercy of God.  People are still calling, emailing, and even visiting our church from other states (two years later!) because we were bold enough to actually preach this sermon.  Just yesterday, I met another brother in Christ from another state, who found this sermon, and now gets his family up early every Sunday to watch what God is doing in our church before he goes to his.  I’m amazed because this just keeps happening.  God has sense of humor! 🙂 In it, some of these issues are touched upon.  May the Lord give us the strength to obey His Holy Word.

1) Introduce yourself to our readers.

I am the wife of one wonderful man, mother to three gorgeous children. I did not grow up in the church, but approximately 7 months before I married, the Lord saved me! Fast forward to now– I’ve been married for 22 years, I have a BS in Nursing and a MS in Education, but walked away from the outside workforce to raise our children. I’m now a full-time home keeping/homeschool educating momma.

I lead two dance ministries at our church. This to me has the similar challenges as head coverings. In dance, you have to work hard to minister through movement of your body, without letting your body become the focus of what people see. With head covering, you do not want the focus to be on the covering- style/fashion.

I enjoy sewing, gardening and expanding my cooking skills. I am a reformed, big mouthed black female working hard to serve the Lord. 🙂 Read more

Head Coverings: Personal Thoughts (Video)

A little less than two weeks ago we posted this great sermon by Carlton McLeod on 1 Corinthians 11:2-16. Today he recorded a follow-up video for his congregation, sharing some pastoral thoughts, counsel and concern. We’d like to encourage you all to watch it as well.

Head Coverings | History, Context, and Exegesis (Sermon)

Preacher: Dr. Carlton C. McLeod | Sermon Length: 1 hr 8 min | Year preached: May 2014

Dr. McLeod is a native of Columbia, SC and grew up in Upper Marlboro, MD. In 1987, he enlisted in the United States Navy and reached the rank of O-3 before the Lord called him into full-time ministry. In 1997, Dr. McLeod and his wife Donna established Calvary Revival Church Chesapeake. Dr. McLeod is relentless in his pursuit to compassionately teach with a biblical worldview. After spending his early years in ministry attempting to pull young people out of the kingdom of darkness with all the world’s methods, the Lord led Dr. McLeod back to the Bible to see the critical need for constant, fervent, and Spirit led biblical family discipleship. The D6 Reformation was created out of this desire. Dr. McLeod earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Science from Hampton University; a Master of Theology and Doctor of Ministry from Andersonville Theological Seminary. He and his wife Donna have been married since 1992 and they have two beautiful daughters, Dori and Aryanna and a son, Jonathan.
