Moriah Austin

I’m confused. Is this line of reasoning not contrary to the “covering not for modesty” argument?

Jeremy Gardiner

Hi @moriahaustin:disqus, great question. The verse he’s referencing is 1 Cor 11:7 which says “For a man ought not to cover his head, since he is the image and glory of God, but woman is the glory of man.”

So from this verse we see that the “glory of God” shouldn’t be covered but the “glory of man” (the woman) should be. So when we worship corporately we’re symbolically showing that God’s glory is the only thing on display while we shield (cover) man’s glory.

I personally wouldn’t agree that “etiquette” teaches this and you’re right that there’s probably a little bit of “modesty” in his line of thinking to say it.
