R. C. Sproul is not a proponent of the “Head Covering Movement”!

What makes you say that @david_pendleton:disqus? I’m not even sure if he’s aware of this site/movement.

R.C. is a proponent of head covering and still holds this position as confirmed by his son (R.C. Sproul Jr.) to me yesterday. I noticed you also mentioned on Facebook that R.C. doesn’t make head covering mandatory in his church–and that’s correct. However, he still holds to this position which is why we quoted him.

Hi Jeremy,

I have been having an ongoing conversation with a friend of mine (Chris) who is indeed a proponent of the “Head Covering Movement”. So I made a mistake in presuming that the position that Chris touts is that of this “movement” (website). Basically my friend Chris believes that women who do not wear a head covering should not be allowed to be members of the church (which is, in fact, the case in the church where my friend attends. He told me that if a woman in his church does not wear a piece of fabric on her head she will be approached in the manner that Jesus lays out in Matthew 18:15-17. She would be first approached by one or two, then the elders, and she ultimately would be brought before the entire church and if she chose to not wear a piece of fabric on her head and she would be cast out of the church (“treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector”).

It was my impression, based upon my friend Chris’s enthusiasm for the “Head Covering Movement”, that his position represented that of this website. I knew that was not R. C. Sproul’s position (to make the head covering mandatory for all women in his church) so my comment was aimed at making that point.

I purchased the full sermon from the Ligonier website, but have still been unable to download it. Their website seems to have a lot of “bugs” that need to be worked out, and no one has replied to my help inquiry.

Sorry to hear that Joy. Send me an email via the contact form (About–>Contact Us) and I’ll send you the sermon. Since you paid for it, I don’t have an issue with that.

Upon a serious study of this subject found in 1st Corinthians 11:2-16, there is no way around the conclusion unless one separates the last few verses from the total context. This is what people usually do to attempt to evade the practice today. Paul is very clear. I believe it should be worn by all women in public worship.

Great to hear that you did a deep study on the topic Mike! Awesome.
