Introducing the HCM Re-Launch Team

The Re-Launch Team

Today we’d like to introduce ourselves. We are the HCM re-launch team.

We look forward to serving you as we help spark a return to the biblical practice of head covering (1 Cor. 11:2-16).

The re-launch takes place on Feb 1st. Come back then to read a collaborative article from us all.

To learn more about us visit this page. To join us, visit this page.

The HCM Re-Launch is Confirmed. Here’s How You Can Help.

The Re-Launch is Confirmed

Today we’re excited to announce that The Head Covering Movement re-launch will be moving forward in early 2019!

Stay tuned as we’ll be announcing the re-launch date and introducing our team to you next month.

Here’s how you can help make this re-launch a success. We have 8 ways you can participate.

1) Volunteer for a position. We still have many roles which you can serve in. Four new jobs were just added. Check them out!

2) Write for us. Starting today, we are accepting guest articles for publication on HCM. Feel like you have something to write about? Click here to learn more.

3) Share your head covering testimony. Our new Testimony Coordinator would love to hear your story and potentially feature it on the site.

4) Ask a video question. Would you like to be featured on our next video? Help us continue our “Ask Your Head Covering Question” series.

5) Fund the re-launch. 100% of all donations will go towards our re-launch expenses, as we get the word out about the biblical teaching on head covering.

6) Buy or review our book. This supports what we do AND helps get the word out. If you have already read it, could you review it on Goodreads and/or Amazon for us?

7) Share our content. Help us get the word out about HCM by sharing your favorite content from our site on social media. Not sure what to share? Try a quote image. Bloggers can put these banners + buttons on their site.

8) Pray! We would love for you to pray for us as a movement. Pray that sound teaching on this topic would spread among the church worldwide. Also, can you pray that God would provide many people to jump in with all 8 of these participation options? We’d especially love prayer for our new team, that we’d fulfill our new jobs joyfully and that our work would be full of truth and grace.

Please prayerfully consider how you can help. This is a movement, and in order for us to accomplish our goals, we need the help and support of people like you. Thank you!

A New Season for HCM

[UPDATE: Dec 6/18: This post has been superseded by this post. We are no longer looking for someone to take over HCM.]

A New Season for HCM

Hello everyone,

I wanted to provide a short update on why the Head Covering Movement has been quiet lately. I (Jeremy) started the four-year Biblical Studies program at Moody Bible Institute in March. I am doing this because I desire to enter pastoral ministry. Taking a full course load along with my business, family, and church responsibilities have left little time for HCM and other projects. On top of that, in two weeks I’ll begin the eldership training and testing process at my church.

Since I won’t have the same time I had in earlier days for HCM, it will need to enter a new season. It will either be periodically updated by me with a handful of articles and videos a year (as I still have more to say on this topic) or it may be the time to pass the torch and let someone else who is ambitious take over. This movement was never about me so I’d be glad to pass the leadership responsibility on. I’ll be praying for the latter (and I’d encourage you to as well) but if that person does not come then I’ll continue updating it here and there.

As far as my future plans with HCM, I have another full book I want to write. It’s dealing in-depth with the cultural view of head covering. I have already outlined it and started the first chapter. Another reason why I believe someone else would be better served running HCM is so I can devote my time to the book. There’s also a few in-depth articles I’d like to write that haven’t been dealt with yet on this site including the “testicle” view, the “covering” is your husband view, and I’d like to dive deeper into first-century Corinthian prostitution. I also have a handful of videos I’d like to make in addition to answering your questions.

So that’s where we’re at right now. If you believe you’re the right person to take over HCM feel free to send me a message. We’ll be looking for someone who has been convictional about head covering for some time (not a recent belief), has similar theology (Complementarian, Evangelical), excellent computer/internet skills, a good writer, along with the time to devote to HCM and passion for the topic. Men and women will both be considered.

Well, that’s it for now. Keep us in your prayers! I have a month off in July so hopefully, I’ll be able to get a new article or video up at that time.

A Long-Overdue Health Update (from HCM founder)

Health Update

Hello everyone, it’s Jeremy Gardiner, the founder of the Head Covering Movement. Back in June 2017 I posted an announcement that I was going through some very serious health complications. I found out I had cancer that had spread through my body, a grapefruit-sized tumor wrapped around a major blood vessel, and large blood clots in my lungs. Looking back on the last 7 months it’s been quite a journey. Here’s a quick recap of the major events:

1) I spent the first few weeks in hospital and then went for regular chemotherapy treatments for 3 months.
2) I had a filter surgically put in near my heart to catch the blood clots (it was taken out less than 2 months later). I also had to have twice-daily injected blood thinners. Thankfully a few months in it was decreased to a single needle each day (and today I am just on a pill).
3) I lost the ability to walk twice during the last 7 months. One time took 2 weeks in hospital to recover and the other time a month.
4) In the midst of all this on August 26th my son, Leonard Ravenhill Gardiner was born. He is our 5th child. Even though I was weak, I was able to be there with my wife in the hospital while he was delivered.
5) Being bedridden twice I spent close to 2 full months in bed.
6) I had major abdominal surgery to take out the tumor and affected lymph nodes. The surgeon described the 7-hour surgery as “very difficult, but successful”. The Inferior Vena Cava blood vessel that had the tumor wrapped around it, wasn’t able to be salvaged. The cancerous tumor “invaded and obliterated it” so it was removed.

On January 2nd I got the good news that I am now cancer-free. I will continue with regular tests every 2 months to ensure it doesn’t come back. I’ve also dramatically changed my diet to help my body keep it away. Even though I am cancer-free, I am not free from the side effects. Walking is extremely difficult and unless it’s a very short distance I have to use a walker or wheelchair. I have chronic lower-back pain (since June) and because of that, I have to take pain meds daily to function normally. I have “cancer fatigue”, so I’m tired a lot more and very weak. Having said all that, I’m very grateful for how much God has brought me through. I feel blessed to have been able to provide for my family through Gospel eBooks and sales of my Head Covering book during this trial. Even now, I wouldn’t be able to return to work if I worked a labor-job.

I want to publically thank the followers of this site who offered up prayers for me, and also huge thanks to so many of you who donated. Finances were not stressed about for one second due to the generous outpouring of people like you.

So now that brings us to the future of HCM. I have no intention of calling it quits on the movement. I have one more book on this topic I want to write and I still want to create new content for this site. However, I’m not at the point where I can just jump in full steam yet due to the fatigue. So you’ll likely see some new content up soon, and hopefully, as the year progresses it will become more consistent.

Major Announcement regarding HCM and its founder

[Notice: This page was from the summer of 2017. Since then Jeremy has made a fully recovery and though he experiences lingering side-effects, he lives a normal life.]

Hey everyone, it’s Jeremy the founder of the Head Covering Movement. I have some major life changing news that I’d like to share with you all today.

Since the night of June 2nd I have been having some serious health complications that included strong abdomen pain, back pain, and breathing problems. After numerous tests with specialists they have found the issues.

My breathing issues are because I have many large blood clots in my lungs which if they weren’t dealt with soon would have been fatal. It’s putting a lot of stress on my heart so that’s where doctors are focusing their time and effort on now trying to stabilize my heart and breathing before they move on to the next issue.

The lower body pain I’ve been experiencing is confirmed to be cancer. Though the cancer started in my lower body it has been moving upwards and I have a grapefruit sized tumor in my stomach which is wrecking havoc on my body as it’s wrapped around blood vessels and pushing organs around. It is also what’s been causing the blood clotting in my lungs. Both surgery and chemotherapy will be employed to deal with the cancer in various places.

So much has happened so soon. Just as early as a week ago–standing, walking, and turning were all movements I did without thinking but now are very difficult and can sometimes only be done with assistance or pain medication. I’m not able to help my wife with even the simplest of things and can expect to be mostly bed-ridden for the foreseeable future.

Even though I received a lot of bad news quickly, I am in good spirits. I am not scared or worried. My theology is keeping me grounded through this all. Particularly the Bible’s teaching on God’s sovereignty (Daniel 4:35) and the fact that he promises to work all things (including cancer) together for my good (Romans 8:28). Knowing I have an all-powerful God who is in complete control of this situation and is weaving this chain of events for my ultimate good is comforting. And knowing that even if I don’t recover from this and die early, I know that because my faith is placed in Jesus, I will spend eternity together with Him. The doctor when he broke the news to me said “I wish everyone could respond as well as you’re responding”, I told Him that the reason I can respond well is because “I’m in a right relationship with God.” It really is the only reason.

Your prayers for myself and my family would be greatly appreciated during the season. If anyone would like to help us out in a tangible way as we walk through this process, you can donate through Paypal or if you use a Canadian bank, through email money transfer (same e-mail for both: [email protected] ).

100% of the money will be used to help cover the extra costs of things like hospital parking and medication as well as practical things which will lessen the load of my wife like take-out meals for my kids on days when she is too exhausted too cook.

————————————–

What does this mean for the Head Covering Movement? It means at least for the foreseeable future I will be unavailable to create or curate new content for the site. I don’t think it would be helpful to speculate long term right now. I likely will be able to provide an update toward the end of the year on my health and what will happen with HCM moving forward. Our site will remain online as a resource hub and my prayer is that it will continue to remain a blessing to those who find our site after researching this topic.
