Head Covering Seminar @ Hannover International Bible Church

Reformation, Revival, Repentance Seminar

Should We Wear Head Coverings in Our Worship Services?

The Church is strongly encouraged to prayerfully study with all diligence 1 Corinthians 11:1-16. During these four hours of study we will look at definitions, history, and objections raised. If this command is still applicable to the 21st Century then we must obey for the right reasons. We are to set aside traditions, culture, and previous teachings as we approach God’s word. May the Almighty God who saved us by His undeserved grace lead us in the way we ought to go (Isaiah 48:17-18).

Here’s a quote from this seminar by Pastor Bob Hnat:

You have to understand…I taught womens hair was her covering. I taught it. I taught it in this church…I taught the Corinth prostitute thing. I’m guilty. And that’s why this passage and all this study has driven me to my knees, confessing to God of teaching things that did not have real historical and biblical evidence. And so it has driven me to repentance. 1) From Seminar #2 starting at 1hr 44min 29sec.

Headship and Its Symbols (Sermon)

Rev. William Klock: “Headship and Its Symbols”

Preacher: Rev. William Klock | Sermon Length: 37 min | Year preached: Oct 2009
The Rev’d William Klock is rector of Living Word Reformed Episcopal Church in Courtenay, British Columbia.  He has a Bachelor of Arts in History from Washington State University and a Master of Christian Studies in Old Testament and Biblical Languages from Regent College in Vancouver, B.C.  He has been ministering in the Reformed Episcopal Church since 2001 and in the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Church of Canada before that.  Preaching is one of his great passions, as is instilling a love for the Scriptures in God’s people and their ministers.  He is also a lover of classical, opera, and jazz music; swimming; books and reading; pipe smoking; and his wife, Veronica. William also blogs at “The Anglican Expositor“.
This sermon is EXCELLENT! In just over 35 minutes Rev. Klock gives an expositional overview of 1 Cor 11:2-16 while answering many objections and questions. He says that before preaching this message he was “reading for about 3 months to make sure [he] got the subject right”. When listening to this sermon, that preparedness is clearly evident.  This is biblical preaching at its finest–sound exegesis with pastoral sensitivity. We wholeheartedly commend this sermon to you and encourage you to share it with others.

What? Me? Wear a Hat? (Sermon)

What? Me? Wear a Hat? Sermon by Rev. David Mook

Preacher: Rev. David Mook | Sermon Length: 37 min | Year preached: 2002
Rev. David Mook is an adjunct professor at Geneva Reformed Seminary, teaching in the field of practical theology. Mr. Mook did undergraduate and graduate work at Bob Jones University, graduating from there in 1976 with a master of arts in Dramatic Production. He served as a faculty member in the speech department at BJU until 1983, when he entered what is now called Geneva Reformed Seminary. He received his master of divinity degree, was licensed to preach, and moved with his family to Phoenix, Arizona, to begin establishing a new congregation for the Free Presbyterian Church. Services began early in 1986 and the congregation was formally constituted by the presbytery in 1995. Mr. Mook has served in a number of capacities in the denomination both as a part of the standing commission of the presbytery for North America and now in the presbytery of the Free Presbyterian Church of North America. In 2006 he was elected moderator of the presbytery and now serves as its clerk. Mr. Mook and his wife, Mary, have a daughter and a granddaughter.
The inspired Apostle Paul established the truth that the practice of women wearing headcoverings during public worship is not a cultural creation but a submission to the structure of authority that Christ has established in His church. His teaching has the same force as that which follows dealing with the Lord’s Supper.

Headcovering and the Young Christian (Sermon)

Headcovering and the Young Christian
Philip Gardiner has been the minister of Carrickfergus Free Presbyterian Church in Northern Ireland since January 2007. He was trained at the Whitefield College of the Bible (Northern Ireland). He is currently awaiting confirmation of a visa to go to Australia to be the minister in Perth Free Presbyterian Church. He is married to Cherith and they have two young daughters.

This sermon was preached on Nov 18, 2012 at a youth meeting in Mount Merrion FPC in Belfast. Though it was delivered to youth, it is a sermon that transcends age. In only 38 minutes Philip Gardiner makes a positive case for head covering, speaks about the various objections and explains the principle of headship which the symbol points to. In such a short time he covers an astonishing amount of ground, thoroughly. One thing that stands out in this sermon is Philip’s heart and concern for the things that are greater than the symbol of covering. He asks of the Lord in prayer, “that our lives might be brought into conformity to the Word of God, not merely in the outward practice, but also in the heart“. He shows concern that some objections (particularly, seeing Paul as a Chauvinist–bringing his own cultural views of men/women into the Scripture) undermine the inspiration of Scripture. Also at the end he makes an appeal for everyone to be under the more important covering, the “covering that there is in the precious blood…that covers your sin”. We commend this sermon to you as a short, but jam-packed introduction to head covering.

Milton Vincent on 1 Corinthians 11:2-16 (Sermon Series)

Milton Vincent Sermon Series on 1 Corinthians 11:2-16
Milton Vincent is the Pastor-Teacher at Cornerstone Fellowship Bible Church in Riverside, CA. He received his B.A. in Bible from Bob Jones University and his M. Div. from The Master’s Seminary. Upon graduation, Milton assumed the pastorate of Cornerstone in January ’92. Milton is also the author of “A Gospel Primer for Christians” which is endorsed by John MacArthur, Jerry Bridges, C.J. Mahaney, Stuart Scott along with many others.

We wholeheartedly commend this sermon series by Pastor Milton to you. He unpacks this section of Scripture with exegetical precision (as we’d expect from a TMS graduate) and carefully uses high quality evidence and quotations. He deals with the issues and questions raised comprehensively and preaches with a gracious tone and pastoral sensitivity. He is very honest about his struggles through the text, describing his embrace of head covering as “the most tramatic interpretative decision in my 10.5 years of preaching”. He says he arrived at this conclusion with a bias against head covering in which his “heart would LEAP” whenever a commentator said it wasn’t for today. Despite his bias, he came to the conclusion that it is for today and in this series you will find the reasons that led him to that conclusion.
